Walking in my grandpa’s shoes... a short story by Laura Tietgen
My grandmother (my mom’s mother) had to make an apprenticeship on a farm when she was about sixteen years old… In that time faucets didn’t excist and people didn’t care much about hygiene so once a week they filled a bath tub wtith hot water and placed it in the barn. The educators had the right to bathe first and then the learners. Unfortunately my grandma was a learner and when they could take a bath, the water was horrible dirty and cold as well, so she decided not to bath at all. Once a week, she took a bucket, filled with fresh water and poured it out about her head… She was the cleanest learner on the whole farm.
